Episode 56: Grace Sammon, author of The Eves

Grace Sammon shares behind the scenes insights on her novel, The Eves. A unique and original study on parent-child relationships, women’s relationships, and the narratives we tell ourselves - and each other.

Grace shares the inspiration behind her story, which centers around Jessica, a character who is struggling, until introduced and pushed to write the aural history of a group of diverse, determined and fascinating group of women.

We chat about the novel’s setting around DC and in Maryland overlooking the Chesapeake bay, and the plot twists and turns in the book.

Grace’s inspiration started with thinking about the kind of place she’d want to retire, as well as an opportunity to talk to her youngest self. Grace shares insights I related to on how, as we age, the power of women’s friendships and stories can carry and affect us in different ways and gain focus on leaving our mark on the world.

She shares her beautiful background in the interview, and the unique story of the quilt behind her.

Her writing advice includes to think about why you are writing, and we chat about the power of letting our friends find their own answers.

Recent reads that Grace enjoyed THE BOOK WOMAN OF TROUBLESOME CREEK by Kim Michele Richardson and she’s currently reading my own novel THE EXIT STRATEGY by Lainey Cameron with its unique interplay between two women, which totally made Grace smile.

At the end she gives us a sneak peek on what’s next for her – a radio show!
